Controversies

DISPUTED

OS-tan had no rights holder, which did not stop people from claiming one. OSC's introduction names the fights English fandom actually tracked. This page summarizes them without pretending we can adjudicate Japanese copyright from a 2026 encyclopedia.

Netrunner and Me-tan

Moeverse: in April 2004 Netrunner released trading cards that included Me-tan. Unauthorized use of Futaba work had already angered the board. The Me-tan creator explicitly forbade SoftBank Publishing (Netrunner's owner) from using the character and threatened legal action. English wikis sometimes shorten this to 'Netrunner claimed Me-tan.' The creator-side prohibition is the part that is documented.

Deja Vu and NT-tan

OSC: Deja Vu ArtWorks, a doujin circle, claimed ownership of several designs including NT-tan. MALINO from that circle also sold the Me Document and Shared Folder! digital trilogy. Those claims are disputed in community sources. This wiki stamps NT-tan CANON as a look, DISPUTED as a property.

Vista

No agreed Vista-tan. Chiivistan (often associated with +Nijiura+ popularity in English) vs Futaba's Vistake vs edition-specific girls. OSC treated Vista as unsettled. See Vista-tan.

Troubled Windows USA

OSC mentions an English comic using American stereotypes that the community disliked. It is a fandom manners fight, not a primary-source event for the 2003 origin.

The CORP mix-up

The longest-running confusion is not a lawsuit. It is Wikipedia-shaped memory: Nanami as 'the Windows 7 OS-tan,' Ichika as 'the Windows 11 OS-tan,' Inori as 'IE-tan' in the Futaba sense. See FAN vs CORP.
