Futaba Channel (ふたば☆ちゃんねる) is a Japanese anonymous imageboard. OS-tan specifically starts on its Nijiura board (二次元裏＠ふたば), not as a named project and not as a posted ruleset. Someone drew Windows Me. Other people kept drawing sisters.

The board is routinely described as closed to outsiders. The Vault FAQ, as summarized by Moeverse, discouraged republishing OS-tan works on third-party sites because word would get back to Nijiura. That is part of why English coverage is second-hand, why OSC exists as a foreign-language archive, and why this encyclopedia cites secondary chronology instead of pretending we have the original threads.

Nijiura is not +Nijiura+. English text often collapses them because both names contain ニジウラ. They produced different Mac and Vista casts.

The original boards include adult artwork. Digging 'further into OS-tans' on Pixiv or old Vault archives means encountering that. This site is a culture reference, not a mirror of those files.
