Windows 3.1-tan — Ōbaba, sometimes 'Grandma' even when drawn young — is a gothic girl in lavender with a 3.1 brooch and a cat that stands in for MS-DOS 6.22. The cat can become a catgirl nurse in some strips. She is on OSC's canon list and on the 2004 Vault roster.

The grandmother nickname is a version-age joke: 3.1 is the GUI that sat on DOS, old relative to XP-era girls. Some comics make her a servant of DOS-tan, echoing the (oversimple) idea that 3.1 was 'just a shell.' MS-DOS-tan is a separate shy schoolgirl; DOS-nuko is 3.1's cat. Keep them straight.
